Teachers are known to rise to the occasion when a student is in need. This months Crystal Apple Award winner has done that on more than one occasion.

Mr. Jeff Kerr is a 4th grade teacher at Indian Hills Elementary in Topeka. Here is what his nominator said to us:

“Mr. Kerr is a 4th grade teacher at Indian Hills and always goes above and beyond. He has been by my house twice this year! Once to drop off a coat left at school and once for my son’s adaptive school plan. Who does that?! Mr. Kerr does. He did an amazing job when we were doing hybrid learning. He provided structure, was always available, and helped the kids be accountable in a respectful way. Countless times I heard him praise each kiddo in his class when he had a chance. Always trying to make his kids feel empowered, loved, and connected during these challenging learning times.

I have never had a teacher stay in so much contact. He would check in with different parents each week. I have never felt so much a part of any class since I have been in school!

As challenging as this year has been Mr. Kerr has not only risen to the occasion but has gone above and beyond by supporting the kids, the parents, other teachers. The kids told me at one time this year he was the only 4th grade teacher on site and taught all 4 classes! What a super hero!!
