We are thrilled to honor Rachel Anderson, an exceptional band teacher at Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic School in Topeka, as the recipient of the prestigious Crystal Apple Award for the month of August.

Rachel’s dedication to both her students and her military service sets her apart. As the Commander of the 35th Infantry Division Band in the Kansas National Guard, she exemplifies leadership, discipline, and passion. Her commitment to shaping young minds extends beyond the classroom, and her impact resonates throughout the school community.

Terri Shump, who nominated Rachel, shared the following about Rachel,

I just wanted to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for the incredible impact Mrs. Anderson has had on my daughter Haylee. She is truly the best band teacher a student could ask for!

Mrs. Anderson goes above and beyond to encourage her students to practice and strive to be the best version of themselves. Her words of encouragement and stories from her own life resonate deeply with my daughter. It’s truly inspiring to hear my daughter talk about Mrs. Anderson’s journey from a reluctant young musician to a super talented horn player who has traveled the world with her army band.

Not only does Mrs. Anderson excel in music, but she also embraces her culture by playing in a mariachi band. Her passion and dedication are truly admirable, and my daughter is lucky to have such a wonderful role model.

In the band room, Rachel creates an environment where students thrive. Her innovative teaching methods, personalized attention, and encouragement empower students to reach their full potential. Whether it’s mastering a challenging piece or performing at school events, Rachel’s guidance inspires excellence.

Rachel’s dual role as an educator and military leader reflects her commitment to service. She balances her responsibilities with grace, demonstrating resilience and dedication. Her impact extends beyond the classroom, as she instills values of discipline, teamwork, and perseverance in her students.

As part of her award, Rachel will receive a personalized Crystal Apple award and a prize package from Prairie Band Casino. Additionally, Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic School is in the running for a $1,000 donation, which will be announced in January 2025.

Congratulations, Rachel Anderson! Thank you for your outstanding contributions to education and your service to our country.
