
Meet John McFarland, dedicated teacher at Veritas Christian School and the April recipient of the Crystal Apple Award! Mr. McFarland has made a profound impact on his students and community through his unwavering faith and commitment to education.
John McFarland wears many hats at Veritas Christian School, where he has been teaching for 15 years. He teaches 8th grade Bible and History, as well as 12th grade Speech. Beyond the classroom, he serves full time as a pastor to a small church in Lawrence, Kansas.
One of McFarland’s students nominated him for the Crystal Apple award with a touching testimony. She praised McFarland for strengthening her faith in God and described him as having “amazing attributes” and a genuine desire for the best for his students’ futures. She highlighted his strong Presbyterian faith and his admiration for Abraham Lincoln, which she finds incredibly inspiring.
McFarland’s teaching philosophy is rooted in wisdom and love. He creates a positive and engaging learning environment with lessons that are enriched with historical and biographical stories, featuring figures like missionaries Mary Slessor and leaders such as Winston Churchill.
