From Royal Valley High School, Jay Diamond is named the October Crystal Apple Award winner from Majic 107.7. The Crystal Apple Award, sponsored by Prairie Band Casino, recognizes outstanding educators in the Topeka and Northeast Kansas area who go above and beyond to make a difference in the lives of their students.
To say that Jay is a treasured Royal Valley High School staff member is an understatement. He is truly loved.
Jay joined the team as the Head Custodian at Royal Valley thirty years ago, having concluded twelve years in a similar capacity in Mankato, Kansas. In addition to that role, Jay is a deejay for all high school dances and sporting events. Jay says that he fell into the deejay role strictly by accident in 1987 when he used to play in a band. Later, he received a college degree in studio recording at the Recording Workshop, south of Columbus, Ohio.
Jay was nominated by Julie Marston, who is the Royal Valley Cheerleading Sponsor. Not only has she known Jay for over 25 years, but her daughters and, now, granddaughters are, also, on the cheerleading squad where Jay provides technical assistance.
In her nomination letter, Julie says, “Jay is always the first one here and the last one to leave. He cares so much about all the students and has seen many generations walk through the school doors. He is such an important person in the students’ lives. He is amazing!!”
Congratulations to Jay Diamond, the October Crystal Apple Award Winner, from Prairie Band Casino & Majic 107.7!
