The first-ever Disabled and Proud Parade of Kansas will be held on July 23, 2022, in Downtown Topeka, Kansas. This program is in collaboration with The Disabled and Proud Foundation of Kansas and Kansas Miss Amazing.
However, what makes this even more special is that it’s not about one person or even just one organization, it takes all of us to showcase the importance of celebrating and accepting people with disabilities.
The goal of this event is to bring the disability community together in celebration of its beauty and diversity while promoting visibility, understanding, and acceptance of all disabled persons throughout the State.
A resource & activity fair, speeches, and more will be held on the capitol lawn after we circle the building.
The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which was enacted on July 26, 1990, is a significant milestone in the history of the disability rights movement. The inaugural Disability Pride Day was celebrated in Boston later that year. Chicago hosted the first Disability Pride Parade in 2004. The month of July has been designated as Disability Pride Month, a time for us to reflect on our past and celebrate the life we lead now.
Mark your calendars and plan to join in on the celebration!
