Panic! At The Bottleneck

One ominous message and the frenzy started. Merely a tweet that had the Panic! At The Disco symbol and the words “Lawrence, KS 3/30/18” and people were scoping out their local venues. The 7th of a string of pop up shows landed right here in Kansas and people were desperate to be there. Lines began to form at Liberty Hall and The Bottleneck the night before the show, awaiting the news of where the show would be, and wanting to be the first in line. Around noon the day of the show, Panic! At The Disco announced they would be playing at the Bottleneck in a first come first serve show. By 2pm the line was already to capacity and people were lined up down Mass Street just hoping for someone to leave the line. The first 350 people were the lucky ones and the rest were turned away.

At 7:30pm doors opened and the place immediately filled. At 9pm, lights went out and with the chime of “Carry On My Wayward Son” Brendon Urie, Kenny Harris, Dan Pawlovich, and the new bassist who formerly played with Miley Cyrus, Nicole Row joined the stage. When Kansas cut off they opened with “Don’t Threaten Me With a Good Time” and the crowd went wild. The band played everything from their early 2000s throwbacks to their hits off the 2016 album “Death of a Bachelor” to their 2 most recent singles (released March 21, 2018) off the upcoming album.

Before closing they mentioned that usually they leave the stage and wait for a crowd response to come back out and play 1 or even 2 encores. They laughed about how ridiculous that was because people always know they’re coming back, so instead of wasting time, they added another song to their set to fill in that time and played their usual 2 encores which included their biggest hit “I Write Sins Not Tragedies,” which has a portion of that featured in the video below.

Panic! At the Disco played a pop up show in Lawrence tonight to 350 of their biggest fans. Didn’t get to make it? Here’s a peak of what went down.
